X-treme Home Makeover presents...

OK, well not really "X-treme Home Makeover", but Mom & Dad's flower beds were empty and desperately needed some T.L.C.  I made it my New Years Resolution to get something into these beds!

How much is that doggy in the window?

Mom, Dad and I set out for Lowe's yesterday and spent quite a bit of time in there while she picked from what seemed like an infinite assortment of plants.

We checked the light and moisture setting of each plant and decided on these three:  Dracaenas, After Eight Oriental Lilies, and Umbrella Plants.

Fortunately Dad already mulched, which will help with keeping the plants hydrated and the weeds down.  I simply moved the mulch aside, amended the soil, and put in the plants.

We hauled some of the sand from the bed over to the side and back of the house.

Lilies!  Just in time for Easter!

When we got home from Lowe's, we arranged the plant pots in the beds before planting, to get an idea of what things would look like.  Before we even planted anything, the neighbor complimented on our new garden.  She also said that she just tore out some azaleas that died.  We almost picked azaleas, but Mom could not find a color she liked.  I do think she picked the perfect plants!

Dad was a great help.  He helped me load and unload the van, haul out the sand from the beds and he also thoroughly watered everything once it was in the ground.  He also has mad skills at sharpening a shovel!  (Beware of sparks)

Later this week, Mom will be hosting Easter dinner and the rest of the family will get to check out the new atmosphere.  (I hope I get to see a lily in bloom when I go back!)

We still plan on adding flowers to the corner bed to fill in the empty space.  But that, my friends, is for another day!
